D310 vs D312

Put a differnt pump and lines and injectors on it off combine 715 too. I had real good luck with mine until a diesel injection shop ruined it for me. Mine would blow the gasket out in the oil pump, a quick fix but terminal if not noticed. This manual includes service information for Diesel engines, fuel systems and turbochargers. If that was a common problem I wonder if it was not the source of a lot of those famous bottom end failures. I actually pulled a bottom off of our 3 bottom spinner. By keeping the revs down I meant 22, 23 hundred.

Like they say keep your revs down and shift early. Where we lived for early spring work, you had to run light and fast. I had real good luck with mine until a diesel injection shop ruined it for me. Believe it was one of the first diesels without sleeves it was followed by the cat 3208 also without sleeves. I farm with 2 Mx275's, Mx 210, 7120 mfwd, 2 1086's, 1456, 1256, 756, 254 lawn tractor, and a 2388 combine. I do not know if it was just that particular engine or not, but my brother picked himself up a 686 with the 312 in it last year. I would also keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge.

Otherwise you were in up to your axels. No, they don't build Germans any more- they were built at the factory in Neuss, Germany. We bought the second 666 in the state of Idaho and used it untill Dad retired. They have a 686 German they bought with 600 hours which now has close to 10K untouched. Neighbors bought a 666 new and have been into the engine twice in 12,000 hours- once when the tractor was practically new and again a couple of years ago.

I will second your thoughts, because we have one at the fert plant and its in a tender truck and has been as reliable as a good pair of workboots. Long story not worth going into here. Mine would blow the gasket out in the oil pump, a quick fix but terminal if not noticed. Both tractors are semi-retired now but were worked plenty hard in their day. Mine was in a tractor with a high idle speed of 2600, I have heard trucks will rev higher.

I would at the end get about a cup of antifreeze out of the oil pan when changing oil. I bought mine from the 2nd owner at 2000 hours so I don't know how they ran it but we left it at pto speed and got another 4000 out of it. . The displacements I'm sure of are the 239 4cyl, the 310 and 358 6cyl-- and I think there was a 3cyl version and maybe another couple of 4s- not sure where the later bigger utility tractor engines came from- and a 402? So far as parts- most are readily available-- the tricky part is the fuel system-- you need to know a good pump shop that's willing to look around for parts. Rolled in a new set of crank bearings and they were good to go.

Like they say keep your revs down and shift early. Long story not worth going into here. Description This 272 page, International Harvester Factory Diesel Engine Service Manual is a reproduction of the original manual. If you have an engine that is still original and still running I think it will stand up for you for what you are doing. Pushed the sleeves and pistons out as an assembly to replace the O-ring. Thing just keeps chugging and chugging. It too was expensive to overhaul.

It has never started so good. I would also keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge. They always say the 686 is a snappier tractor than the 666. I seem to be the only one on here that sticks up for those engines. Two that I know of were still going strong, one at 15,000 and the other at 18,000 when the owner quit farming. I bought mine from the 2nd owner at 2000 hours so I don't know how they ran it but we left it at pto speed and got another 4000 out of it. I saved mine twice by noting the oil pressure dropping to about 5 lbs.

F666 I do not know about the 310, other than it is cheeper to rebuild than the 312. If that was a common problem I wonder if it was not the source of a lot of those famous bottom end failures. Our 756 had 15,0000 hrs on the motor before I did something with it. By keeping the revs down I meant 22, 23 hundred. I could be wrong because I have never had either one apart! I saved mine twice by noting the oil pressure dropping to about 5 lbs. With an auto I guess shifting isn't an issue.

If you have an engine that is still original and still running I think it will stand up for you for what you are doing. That engine by far out lasted our 826 motor. With an auto I guess shifting isn't an issue. It was one pulling son of a-----. It does not cover any chassis information — this is an engine specific manual. Mine was in a tractor with a high idle speed of 2600, I have heard trucks will rev higher. We had a good year and decided to overhaul it.
